{"id":70,"date":"2012-03-21T21:59:50","date_gmt":"2012-03-22T02:59:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.parkies.org\/?page_id=70"},"modified":"2016-07-06T09:16:09","modified_gmt":"2016-07-06T14:16:09","slug":"i-can-read-on-the-bike","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.parkies.org\/?page_id=70","title":{"rendered":"I can read on the bike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After buying a new tablet computer, I discovered its display was sufficiently bright that I could easily read from it while biking.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve gone through more entertaining books than I could have imagined.<\/p>\n<p>In my first year reading (2012) I read 30 books.\u00a0 This is a personal record.\u00a0 And some were substantial such as Dante&#8217;s _Divine Comedy_, Dostoyevsky&#8217;s _Crime and Punishment_, and Tolstoy&#8217;s _War and Peace_.<\/p>\n<p>In my second year (2013) I read another 30 more or less.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the books were by authors whose copyrights have expired.\u00a0 I favored Jack London, Zane Grey, and especially Wilkie Collins.<\/p>\n<p>In February of 2014, noting that my cadence wasn&#8217;t as fast as I intended and that my PD had progressed to include a slight tremor, I decided to revert to my original biking exercise plan:\u00a0 40 minutes a day at 90-110 rpm.\u00a0 Writing in 2016 I cannot say that there has been a significant progression since then, but slight variations are hard to measure.\u00a0 Perhaps there will be a clue if I can measure cadence in a more detailed way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After buying a new tablet computer, I discovered its display was sufficiently bright that I could easily read from it while biking.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve gone through more entertaining books than I could have imagined.
